On Sunday May 20th the helicopter carrying Ibrahim Raisi, president, Hossein AmirAbdollahian Foreign Minister and several other high-ranking officials, crashed and all on board died. Ebrahim Raisi started to work closely with the regime when he was only 20 years old as a prosecutor in different settings after the anti monarchy revolution 1979. He was one of the members in the death commission, sentencing political prisoners during Iran's 1988 massacre of some 30,000 political prisoners in kangaroos courts to death. He is also responsible for executions carried out during his tenure as the regime's head of Judiciary before he was chosen as the president by Khamenei, regime's supreme leader. Raisi's death has brought joy not only to the Iranian people specially those who have lost loved ones by him but the people of Syria and Gaza celebrated his death by offering sweets on the streets. His replacement is said to be next to impossible for Khamenei. For the last three years, both Ebrahim Raisi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were advancing the Supreme Leader’s agenda both domestically and internationally. Raisi was the front-runner for the presidency of the Assembly of Experts that resumed on May 21, set to play a crucial role in Khamenei’s succession. With the Raisi's death, his Vice President, Mohammad Mokhber, has come under global spotlight and scrutiny as he will claim the position of the clerical regime’s acting president. Mohammad Mokhber has spent decades working behind the scenes in the regime’s politics, looting resources and serving Ali Khamenei, the regime’s Supreme Leader.
