Over 322,600 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities across Iran, according to reports tallied daily by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Thursday July 4.

The Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei has appointed Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei as the new head of judiciary, according to state-run media. Ejei will replace Ebrahim Raisi, the regime’s new president. Like his predecessor, Ejei comes with a background of violence, crime, and persecution against protesters and dissidents. Ejei has been blacklisted by the US and European Union for his human rights violations. Since the founding of the regime in 1979, Mohseni-Ejei has constantly served in important judicial and security posts, and has played a key role in cracking down on opposition members. https://tinyurl.com/h9mrt9u6

The strikes by Iranian oil-sector workers, which began on June 19, marked its thirteen day on Thursday July 1. The striking workers are demanding better wages and working conditions as they are facing increasing pressure as a result of a declining economy caused from government corruption and the regime’s poor response to the Covid-19 outbreak. This strike has the supports of the Mothers of the uprising specially in 2017-2018, the families of the Ukrainian airplane and world workers organizations. The protesters stressed that they will continue their strike and will further expand them if their demands are not met. Since the beginning of the strike June 19, the movement has expanded to more than 70 companies in more than a dozen cities, including Tehran, Arak, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Abadan, Mahshahr, Jask, Gachsaran, Damavand, Behbehan, Bushehr, Kangan, Qeshm, Khark, Urmia, Kerma, Bandar Abbas, and Ilam. https://tinyurl.com/njzc2kxk

On Sunday, retirees and pensioners held protest rallies in several cities across Iran, including Shush, Ahvaz, Isfahan, and Khorram Abad. The rallies were held in front of the offices of the Social Security Organization in different cities. Prison guards harass the women detainees in Amol Prison, said political prisoner Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee in a message from this prison. To protest this situation, Mrs. Iraee refuses to make telephone calls or go for visitations as an act of protest. In a brief message from Amol Prison, Golrokh Iraee declared that since the women detainees in Amol Prison are deprived of their minimum rights, “I will refuse to use the telephone or go for visitations –which are accompanied every time by the guards’ insults– until the current miserable condition is ended.” https://tinyurl.com/77d9cdps

The clerical regime’s Judiciary continues to hand down prison sentences to Iranian women activists and imprison them despite terrible prison conditions during the pandemic... the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Islamabad-e Gharb objected to the dismissal of Anisa Jafari-Mehr, a cultural activist.
