Despite previous announcements that the State Security Force would not physically confront women on the streets and that the enforcement of the Hijab Law would be done through digital systems, a new announcement has been made that teams will be formed to deal with women who remove their hijabs in public places. Isfahan’s prosecutor, Mohammad Moussavian, announced a tripartite memorandum of understanding between the Judiciary, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), and the Headquarters for Enforcing Good and Prohibiting Evil, which includes the formation of these teams. https://tinyurl.com/2p9bjx8k

A bipartisan congressional caucus of nearly 20 lawmakers was announced by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) on Thursday, April 20. The congressional caucus, called the Iranian Women Congressional Caucus, will serve as a forum for members of the US Congress to discuss issues and developments related to women’s freedom and democracy in Iran. The first move by the Congressional Caucus was a joint resolution condemning the chemical attack on Iranian school girls. The resolution is the latest move by Congress to condemn the current Iranian regime and support the thousands of women and girls protesting for a secular, democratic, and nuclear-free Iran. The resolution, H. RES. 310, condemns the inaction by the Islamic Republic of Iran in addressing the poisoning of Iranian schoolgirls, the Daughters of the Iranian Revolution. https://tinyurl.com/ynxyuxc5

On Wednesday, April 19, the clerical regime continued the poison attack against Iranian schoolgirls. The schools that were attacked are located in Tehran, Urmia, Hamedan, and Dezful. Since November 2022 the regime’s officials have responded with blatant lies and negligence to the serial chemical attacks, which have targeted primarily female students. Despite the regime’s claims of arresting individuals responsible for throwing sprays, no action has been taken to investigate the root cause of the poisoning. The Iranian Resistance has called time after time for an independent investigation by the UN international fact-finding committee to expose the regime’s systematic crimes against students. It is profoundly concerning that innocent students continue to be targeted and killed by the regime while authorities continue to downplay the situation. https://tinyurl.com/4r8w7yxe

After the widespread arrests and imprisonment of students who had been at the forefront of the 2022-2023 uprising, the Iranian regime has begun depriving students of education to exert more pressure on this intellectual and freedom-loving class. Among them were Zahra Rahimi, a chemistry student at Yazd University; Shahin Dabestani, a medical science student in Tabriz; Aida Ghorbani, an Italian language student at Tehran University; Shakiba Hoshiar, a mechanical engineering student at Razi University in Kermanshah, Niloufar Mirzaii, a graphics student at Al-Zahra University in Tehran, and students from Damghan University such as Bahareh Davani, Mobina Yaqubzadeh, Mahsa Soltani, and Parizad Esmaili. https://tinyurl.com/3vy3eyeu
