According to social media reports, Aida Shakarami, sister of Nika Shakarami who was killed during 2022 Iran Uprising, was arrested on, April 17, by the moral security police in Tehran for flouting the mandatory Hijab code. Aida Shakarami is held in detention, but there is no information available on her whereabouts, or the charges leveled against her.

Political prisoner Nejat AnvarHamidi Karoun a 68 year old teacher and a supporter of the PMOI (People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran), is suffering from severe heart disease while detained in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz-Iran. Although according to specialists, she needs surgery, despite repeated requests from her family, prison authorities have refused to send her to a hospital. In addition to her heart condition, Mrs. Anvar Hamidi has been losing her eyesight as well.

A 19-year-old woman named Marjan Hajizadeh was executed on Thursday, April 11, in the Central Prison of Zanjan, Iran. Marjan and her husband, Esmail Hassaniani, 29, had been sentenced to death on drug related charges. They were arrested and imprisoned three years ago when Marjan Hajizadeh was only 16 years and 4 months old. Marjan Hajizadeh is the 233rd woman to be executed in Iran since 2007, according to the data gathered by the NCRI Women’s Committee. She is the 4th woman executed in Iran in 2024.

Atena Farghadani, the famous cartoonist and a former political prisoner, was violently arrested by security forces on Saturday, April 13, and transferred to Evin Prison. She was arrested, reportedly, for attempting to post one of her drawings on the wall in Pastor Avenue, where the presidential palace is located. In protest to her arbitrary arrest, she refused to accept bail bond. Her lawyer, Mohammad Moqimi, reported that Atena Farghadani had been badly brutalized at the time of arrest so much that the scars were evident on her face.
