The visa case of Mehdi Nasiri — former editor-in-chief of state newspaper Kayhan under Khamenei in Iran and political deputy of the Policy Council for Friday Prayer Leaders — has reached Canadian immigration authorities, and his visa may soon be revoked. Shadi Sadr, a lawyer, journalist, and human rights advocate, recently revealed on her Instagram channel that two months ago her team submitted a detailed letter to Canadian officials calling for accountability of past and present officials of the Islamic Republic. “One of the authorities confirmed by email that they are reviewing our documents on Nasiri,” she said. Sadr emphasized that, under Canadian law, anyone who has held a senior position in the Islamic Republic since 2003 is barred from entering the country. “If a visa has been issued for such individuals, it must be canceled,” she added. Nasiri himself confirmed the news on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, August 19, announcing plans to launch a campaign in response. He also disclosed that the visa of his wife, Fereshteh Mazinani — who was due to travel again to Canada — has already been revoked. Two months ago, CBC Television aired a report on Nasiri. Nassiri, who entered Canada with the slogan “from Tajzadeh to Shahzadeh,” is now in Canada presenting himself as a monarchist activist.

In the 82nd consecutive week of the nationwide campaign “No to Execution Tuesdays”, prisoners in 49 facilities across Iran once again raised a united voice against the issuance and implementation of death sentences. What began as an initiative led by political prisoners in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj has now become one of the most significant platforms of resistance against capital punishment in Iran. Outside of the prisons, the families of the death row prisoners continue their activisties to hault executions. https://tinyurl.com/bdmvj5c4
