At the sixty-first session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Sara Hossain, Chair of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran, presented a comprehensive report outlining a deeply troubling human rights situation in the country. Drawing on extensive documentation and first-hand testimony, she warned of the continued systematic repression and the intensification of fundamental rights violations, particularly targeting women. In her statement, Sara Hossain explained that the Mission’s work follows a mandate renewed in April 2025 by the Human Rights Council to investigate “serious and ongoing violations of human rights” in Iran. The findings are based on hundreds of pieces of evidence, including in-depth interviews with 164 victims and witnesses, conducted both inside and outside the country. The Mission also reviewed dozens of official reports published by the Iranian government. https://tinyurl.com/3r5h3v4f

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has announced the continuation of a coordinated hunger strike by prisoners in 56 prisons across Iran for the 113th consecutive week. The protest movement, launched in response to the rising implementation of death sentences, has evolved into a prominent symbol of civil resistance within the country’s prison system. According to the campaign, participating prisoners once again staged a hunger strike on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to protest the accelerating pace of executions. Organizers emphasized that the protest has not ceased even amid conditions of war and aerial bombardment. Despite mounting pressure, prisoners have continued their actions. The campaign’s primary objective is to draw the attention of global public opinion and international institutions to the surge in executions and to the plight of inmates currently facing imminent execution. https://tinyurl.com/3rvz43ca

New reports from Evin Prison indicate a deepening crisis in the provision of medical services within the women’s ward, intensifying concerns over the health and safety of female political prisoners, including Shiva Esmaeli and Elaheh Fouladi. Female political prisoners in Evin Prison are facing severe restrictions in access to physicians, medication, and specialized medical treatment. Many prisoners suffering from serious medical conditions have been systematically deprived of essential care, with necessary treatments repeatedly and indefinitely delayed. Shiva Esmaeli, a political prisoner, is reportedly enduring acute pain caused by spinal canal stenosis and lumbar vertebral complications. Despite the urgent need for specialist examinations and transfer to external medical facilities, her treatment has been postponed for months, leaving her without adequate medical attention. https://tinyurl.com/d4r3s7r

Recent reports from Evin Prison in Tehran indicate that, amid wartime conditions and the risk of unforeseen incidents, the lives of detainees, particularly political prisoners and approximately 200 incarcerated women, are in serious danger. The absence of official accountability, the deterioration of essential services, and the failure to consider the release or transfer of prisoners have significantly heightened concerns about the emergence of a humanitarian crisis inside the facility. Continued incarceration under such volatile conditions has heightened concerns for the safety and well-being of detainees, particularly women political prisoners. https://tinyurl.com/357hs64t
