Devastating earthquake shook parts of East Azarbayejan on Saturday. The death tolls are in the hundreds and many more are wounded. The 6.4 earthquake on the Richter scale jolted Ahar in East Azerbijan province at 4:53 pm. A second earthquake measuring 6.3 struck shortly after, according to US Geological survey. The Iranian regime measured the earthquake as 6.2. The USGS said the first quake was centered 20 miles from Ahar and the second was about 14 miles away. Four villages were completely destroyed and 60 others sustained serious damage according to Fars, state-run news agency.  Iran, located where several tectonic plates come together, is one of the most geologically active places on Earth with a history of devastating earthquakes. At the same time the lack funding for reinstruction of houses and buildings in Iran is an important factor with the numbers of deaths during a natural disaster. The 2003 Bam Earthquake, with a  6.6 magnitude killed 43,000 people, injuring 20,000 and left 60,000 homeless. The Iranian regime does not have any concrete plan for the infrastructure of the buildings in Iran in case earthquake or any other natural disasters struck the country. The Iranian regime called off the rescue operation 24 hours after the twin earthquake leaving thousands to die. The Iranian regime is refusing aid from other countries saying, we don't need help.!

Brutal suppression of protests of Sunni prisoners in Zahedan prison
The Iranian resistance warned in its statement dated Aug. 11, against suppression of political prisoners in Zahedan central prison especially Baluch and Sunni prisoners and called upon all human rights organizations especially the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and rapporteurs on arbitrary arrests and torture to act immediately to address the situation of political prisoners in Iran and to send a fact finding mission to investigate cruel suppression of the prisoners.
On Tuesday August 7th, prisoners of the Zahedan central prison protested against deteriorating conditions in the prison especially putting pressure on Sunni prisoners, and took control of the political prisoners section for few hours. The protest ended with the authorities promise to address their demands.
Following the incident, the prison special guards assaulted the prisoners and injured them by tear gas, batons and electric shockers. Dozens of prisoners, who are Baluchi compatriots, were injured during the clashes with the agents. The guards refuse to provide care for the injured, some of whom are in critical conditions. The political prisoners’ section was set on fire caused by the attack of suppressive forces and was destroyed. Dozens of prisoners were transferred to unknown locations and a  number of them have been transferred to either solitary confinement or the dangerous prisoners’ section where mafia gangs associated with prison guards and intelligence ministry are engaged in drug distribution.
