Five days after Iran quake people suffering from shortage of food, shelter
A week after the devastating earthquakes in Iran’s northwestern provinces, the people of those
regions are worried over lack of shelter, food and threats of the spread of
epidemic diseases. In the meantime, the mullahs’ Majlis (parliament) speaker
delivered a secret report to the members in order to cover up the vast amount
of destruction and the actual number of casualties.
“Damages in the earthquake hit areas are very high. In some rural areas we
witnessed that 100% of the homes were destroyed. Currently, the people are
facing problems such as the lack of hygiene services and supervision,” Ali
Larijani said
during his visit to the earthquake stricken areas.
“The important issue that we are now facing is livestock in the villages that
remain under the rubble, dead or alive, and a humanitarian catastrophe will
take place if urgent action is not taken,” Majlis member Dolatgari said.
“There is no trace of the dispatched physicians and psychologists which the
Madame Minister had promised,” said Dehghani, Majlis member from the earthquake
hit city of Varzaghan. “The trend of treating people is proceeding with
much difficulty and the injured are facing serious problems in this regard.”
Furthermore, state-run media reported the people of Tabriz spent Tuesday night in parks in fear of the
aftershock that struck the area that evening. They were not willing to return
to their homes.
“To this moment 720 aftershocks have shaken East Azerbaijan Province, 257 of which were above 2.5 Richter and 27 above 4
Richter,” said the Iranian regime's Crisis Management chief.
