Political prisoner Leila Chegini, 43 and a mother of two children, is being tortured and beaten at Nowshahr Prison in northern Iran according to Women's committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran NCRI. Intelligence agents arrested Leila Chegini at her home in Karaj on March 16. Intelligence and security services allege that her charge is propaganda against the state. Political prisoner Leila Chegini was transferred to the Department of Intelligence of Sari, the capital of Mazandaran Province, northern Iran. She was tortured and interrogated there for 20 days and subsequently transferred to Nowshahr Prison, detained in limbo. https://tinyurl.com/ms7rwcyp

The Iranian regime’s judiciary has continued to make arrests and issue sentences for civil society activists in recent days. Asal Mohammadi was sentenced to one year and eight months in jail. The 36th Branch of Tehran’s Provincial Appeals Court upheld the conviction of labor activist Asal Mohammadi. She has been sentenced to one year and eight months imprisonment and two years deprived of membership in political and social groups. Her charges are propaganda against the state and assembly and collusion against national security. 

Noushin Keshavarznia, a women’s rights activist and social researcher, was also detained by security forces in Tehran and transferred to an unknown location on Monday, April 25. The arrest came as one of the regime’s security agencies summoned her. So far, no information is available on the reasons for her arrest and whereabouts. Two child brides murdered by their husbands were identified as Zahra Zeinalpour, 21, and Shiva, 16. Zahra was cold-heartedly burned to death with gasoline for protesting her husband's sexual activities in their house. Zahra was forced to marry at the age of 14 or 15. She was a mother of a 3-year-old child. Zahra died on April 22  and her husband fleed and has not been arrested by the Iranian authorities. 

A 16-year-old girl was murdered by her 21-year-old fiancé for opting out of forced marriage. Shiva was killed on Thursday night, April 21, in a village near Yasuj, the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Province, southwestern Iran, the state-run Rokna News Agency reported. Moussa, Shiva's fiancé was angry over Shiva’s choice, and had said that he had rented a house for them to live. Moussa went to Shiva’s house with a gun he had already supplied. Fariba Dalir, a Christian woman, was sent to Tehran’s Evin Prison on Saturday, April 16. Tehran’s Revolutionary Court had earlier sentenced her to two years in prison. Sakineh Behjati, a Christian woman, was transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht on April 16. Sakineh was sentenced to two years imprisonment in August 2020. The charges against this Christian woman are stated as acting against national security through establishing a home church and propaganda against the system through evangelical Christianity. Saeedeh Khozou’i, a Baha’i woman living in Tehran, was also arrested on April 11, after attending the Evin Prison Prosecutor’s Office. Security forces had arrested her in September 2021, but she received a temporary release on bail on October 17, 2021. https://tinyurl.com/464w9wav
