Political prisoner Zahra Safaei was transferred to a civic hospital at 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, due to her deteriorating health. Fourteen political prisoners detained in exile in Qarchak Prison were transferred to Evin Prison on July 20. On July 12, political prisoner Zahra Safaei and her daughter, Parastoo Moini, held a sit-in protest in Qarchak Prison from morning until 1:30 pm. Mrs. Safaei’s condition worsened due to nervous pressure, and she was transferred to the Qarchak Prison dispensary.

Political prisoner Sakineh Parvaneh in Vakilabad prison in Mashhad-Iran was transferred to the women’s ward in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad in December 2020. She has been banned from calling her family for eight months. Interrogators of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) would summon her to the Prison’s Head Office almost monthly to be interrogated as the Head of Prison was absent. The interrogators aimed to obtain a forced confession from Sakineh. But each time, Ms. Parvaneh refused to make any forced confession. Consequently, she faced denial of leave and parole. The IRGC’s intelligence agents had pressured Sakineh Parvaneh to extract false confessions from her forcibly. They had beaten her so the torture signs could be seen on her face, toes, and toenails. A source knowledgeable about Sakineh Parvaneh’s case said, “Ms. Parvaneh was told that if she were to be permitted to visit her family, it would only be possible in the presence of the IRGC intelligence agents.”

Two more death penalties were carried out for Iranian women on Wed. July 27. Soheila Abed and Faranak Beheshti were hanged at dawn in Sanandaj and Urmia prisons, respectively. Soheila Abed 33 was a victim of child marriage. This battered woman was arrested eight years ago and sentenced to death for killing her husband. Faranak Beheshti was arrested and detained five years ago for murdering her husband as well.

An inmate died of stomach cancer in the women’s ward of Vakilabad Prison, the Central Prison of Mashhad-Iran on Sunday, July 24, due to a lack of medical attention. Azam, 40, was imprisoned in the women’s ward of Vakilabad three years ago on drug-related charges.

Political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared who is presently imprisoned in the women’s ward of the Prison of Semnan-Iran faces new charges by the Ministry of Intelligence. She has declined to appear before the court to review the case. Maryam has been in prison without a day of leave since 2009 with a 15 year prison sentence.
