The Tehran Court of Appeals upheld a 5-year sentence for Azar Karvandi Musazadeh in Iran. Azar had been charged with “collusion and assembly against national security” through collaboration with the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The Revolutionary Court of Tehran sentenced Azar Karvandi Musazadeh, Roghieh Soltani Mirzaei, and Makhsous Bukharaei to 12 years in jail in January 2022. All three women were political prisoners in the 1980s and had already spent long years in prison. The Iranian regime executed four members of Mrs. Mirzaei’s family. The Penal Court of Mahabad, Iranian Kurdistan, sentenced political prisoner Soada Khadirzadeh to 12 years and 6 months on Tuesday, September 6. The charges brought against Soada Khadirzadeh is taking part in murder as the main accomplice and membership in a Kurdish party that opposes the Iranian regime. Ms. Khadirzadeh categorically denied killing a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Morad Pirotinia, one of the plaintiffs in the case, is the son of Khezr Pirotinia, who was an IRGC member. Morad has threatened to kill Ms. Khadirzadeh if she is released from prison. Khezr Pirotinia was murdered by an unknown person on October 5, 2021. The state-run Mizan News Agency, associated with the Iranian Judiciary, had announced a few days ago that Soada Khadirzadeh would be released. https://tinyurl.com/mr3zzvfx

The Revolutionary Court of Urmia has sentenced to death Zahra Sedighi Hamedani also known as Sareh, 31, and Elham Choobdar, 24, for their sexual orientation. They are accused of “spreading corruption on earth” by promoting “homosexuality” and “Christianity.” A third woman is also involved in the same case. Soheila Ashrafi, 52, is detained in the women’s ward of Urmia Prison and awaiting her verdict. https://tinyurl.com/mr3zc35u

- Raha Asgarizadeh, a journalist, photographer, and women’s rights activist, started her two-year sentence in Evin Prison on Saturday, September 3.

- Civil activist Fereshteh Hosseini, detained in the Central Prison of Urmia, was relocated to an unknown location on September 3.

- Marzieh Moradveisi, a Kurdish activist, was transferred to the Correctional Center of Sanandaj to serve two years in prison. 

- Arezou Amjadi, a civil activist from Sanandaj, was interrogated for hours on August 29, after reporting to the city’s Intelligence Department. She had been summoned by phone on August 27.
