European Parliament visit to Iran was cancelled

This EU Parliamentarians trip to Iran was to restart a relationship with the Iranian regime as part of the appeasement policy but once again the mullahs showed that negotiations with the mullahs is ineffective.
Reuters reported that the Iranian regime has cancelled a European Parliament delegation visit to Tehran after the group asked to meet two Iranian activists awarded a top EU rights prize. The decision came after senior officials at the parliament, which on Friday awarded its Sakharov prize for human rights and freedom of thought to lawyer and the political prisoner on hunger strike in Evin, Nasrin Sotoudeh and filmmaker Jafar Panahi, said they wanted the delegation to meet the two activists. “After hearing the new conditions, the Iranians decided to cancel,” European Parliament spokeswoman Satu Helin told Reuters. The delegation was set to travel to Tehran from October 27 to November 2. The state- run Mehr news agency quoted an Iranian parliamentary official as saying the European delegation had stated as a “precondition” a visit with Sotoudeh and Panahi.

The European Parliament awarded the prize Friday to two Iranians Nasrin Sotoudeh a lawyer and Jafar Panahi a film director. Martin Schulz, the president of the parliament, said it was “a message of solidarity and recognition to a woman and a man who have not been bowed by fear and intimidation.”

Sotoudeh, a lawyer who represented imprisoned Iranian activists, is now in prison herself and on hunger strike. The Iranian regime does not allow her family to visit her in jail. Mr. Panahi won the Camera d’Or at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. Sotudeh's husband and 12 year old daughter are also banned from leaving Iran.

One hanged in prison west of Tehran for confronting regime henchmen

This incident had taken place on Sunday, October 21st, when inmate Sadegh Koohi confronted Ali Khadem a prison official after he attacked and insulted the prisoner. Reports also indicate Khadem was forced to flee the scene as a result. The state-run television called on the regime’s public prosecutor to execute Sadegh Koohi, resulting in his agreement. On Wednesday, Ali Khadem personally placed the rope around Koohi’s neck for the hanging.
