Over 352,600 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities across Iran, according to reports tallied daily by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Thursday, August 8.

On Tuesday Aug. 3rd Iranian Canadians held a gathering in front of the Parliament Hill by the invitation of Iran Democratic Association and called on Canada to follow up on UN's human right Special Rapporteur for Iran to help launch an investigation into Ebrahim Raisi's involvements in the 1988 Massacre. During the summer of 1988, some 30,000 political prisoners were executed by a fatwa written by Ruhollah Khomenei the founder of Islamic republic of Iran. Ebrahim Raisi who is now the regime's president sat on a death commission and handed down death sentences in a 4-5 minute trials. The same gathering on the dame day was held in Toronto, Vancouver, Washington, Germany, Sweden, to name a few.

On Thursday the families of the victim's of Ukrainian airplane held a demonstration in Toronto, just after Ebrahim Raisi's inauguration ended. The families demanded Canada to open a criminal case, end the inconclusive talks with Iranian regime and to take this case to the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO.

Political prisoners Zahra Safaei, Forough Taghipour, Parastoo Mo’ini, and Marzieh Farsi were interrogated and threatened separately by four interrogators and torturers on Monday, July 26, 2021. The interrogators asked the prisoners why they sent out a statement in June 2021 regarding the election. Parastoo Mo’ini, 20, was threatened by her interrogator: “The situation may be like 1988 again!” https://tinyurl.com/eabr79m

The 26th Branch of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court handed down prison sentences for three Iranian women, Somayyeh Kargar, Bahareh Soleimani, and Nazanin Mohammad-Nejad. They were sentenced to 16 years and 8 months respectively. Somayyeh Kargar and Bahareh Soleimani received sentences of 6 years and 8 months, each, for “participation in running an illegal group,” and “propaganda against the state.” Nazanin Mohammad-Nejad received a 3-year and 4-month prison term for “complicity in running an illegal group,” and “propaganda against the state.” https://tinyurl.com/8sjdwu77

In a joint action on Sun morning August 1, different groups of doctors staged a nationwide protest. Doctors’ protests took place in Tehran, Shiraz, Hamadan, Kerman, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, Mashhad, and Yasuj with the slogan “Even if we perish and die, we will take our rights.” Doctors protested against the harsh working conditions and the lack of job security in Iran. https://tinyurl.com/3kjkfm4j
