Iranian women athletes fleeing world sports camps have made news recently. Yekta Jamali won a silver medal in the 2022 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Junior World Championships. Parisa Jahanfekrian received the Tokyo Olympics quota for the first time in women’s weightlifting in Iran. Mohtaram Veisi, 38, was brutally murdered by her son in Kermanshah- Iran for wanting to divorce her husband. Mohtaram Veisi was deliberately run over by her son, Omid Moradi, on May 1, 2022. The incident occurred in the Jalalieh neighborhood of Kermanshah, western Iran. Omid ran over his mother's body several times. Mohtaram Veisi died of her injuries in a medical center. The night before the shocking crime, her husband and son brutalized her, suspecting that she had an affair with another person. They beat her so much that she fled the house barefoot. According to documents obtained from within the Iranian regime, the Iranian Resistance declared that 183 women in Iranian prisons were on death row or sentenced to Qisas (death by retribution). Death by retribution is carried out on persons convicted of murder, regardless of their motives. Some 5000 nurses were dismissed from their jobs in the past three months alone in Iran. At a news conference, the head of the Iranian Nursing Organization announced the expulsion of the nurses who were on 89-day contracts. Mohammad Mirzabeigi broke the news of the evictions using the term “cessation of cooperation.” He said: “In the past three months, some Medical Sciences universities ended their cooperation with 5000 nurses.” (The state-run eghtesadnews.com – May 17, 2022) The shortage of 100,000 nurses is the very least. The head of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Hossein-Ali Shahriari, announced in 2019 that Iranian hospitals are short of some 80,000 to 150,000 nurses in public and private (medical) centers.
