Sunday Oct. 30th marked the 45th day of Iran’s nationwide protests. On Thursday Oct. 27, the people of Mahabad in northwest Iran took to the streets and initially took part in the burial ceremony of Ismail Moloudi who was killed by the regime’s security forces during the protests the night before in this city. Reports from local activists indicate units of the regime’s security forces opened fire on people in the Gomrok neighborhood, where Moloudi lived. This sparked major protests by the people of Mahabad and locals began marching into the city. Reports indicate angry protesters have taken control of the local governor’s office and at least one police station. Protesters have been seen chanting anti-regime slogans, including “Death to Khamenei!”

Protests in Iran until Thursday Oct. 27, have expanded to at least 199 cities. Over 400 people have been killed and more than 20,000 are arrested by the regime’s forces, according to sources of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).  The names of 260 killed protesters have been published by the PMOI/MEK.

On Thursday, October 27, the people of Khorramabad gathered to pay tribute to Nika Shakarami with anti-regime slogans. They vowed to take her revenge and topple the regime. Security forces had blocked the bridge in Veysian, which is the only route to Hayat-ol Ghaib village where Nika is buried. However, the people and youths fought back and pushed back the regime’s forces, and made it to the cemetery. During Nika's mothers remark, people chanted anti-regime soligans such as: Death to Khamenei, Death to the dictator, With our sacrifice, Khamenei will be toppled this year, Death to the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullah leader, So many years of crime, death to Khamenei’s rule, We are Nika, and fight and we’ll fight back!

Twelve female foreign ministers declare solidarity with the women of Iran. Women foreign ministers from a dozen nations led by Canada’s Melanie Joly on Wednesday (October 26, 2022) jointly condemned Iran’s violent crackdown on women’s rights, as protesters in Iran marked 40 days of unrest, the Agence France Presse reported from Ottowa. “As women foreign ministers, we feel a responsibility to echo the voices of Iranian women,” said a joint statement issued by ministers from Albania, Andorra, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Kosovo, Libya, Liechtenstein, لیکتن استاین New Zealand, and Norway. They expressed “solidarity with the courageous Iranian women engaging in their right of peaceful assembly and advocating for their human rights.” They also condemned the “violent enforcement” of Iran’s hijab and chastity law and the “ongoing crackdown against protesters,” including women and students.

Professor Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, addressed the Third Committee session at the United Nations deliberating a resolution censuring the Iranian regime for gross violations of human rights. In his remarks to the Third Committee, Prof. Rehman said the Iranian authorities responded with brutal oppression to protests that started five weeks ago, and that at least 215 people had died, and thousands of people arrested, including human rights defenders, students, lawyers and journalists. “We have made very strong calls for investigations — independent investigations, impartial investigations — into the death of Mahsa Jina Amini but this has not happened,” he told reporters. He expressed alarm over the conditions of women and called for the establishment of an international investigation into Iran’s human rights abuses leading up to and following the death of Mahsa Amini, which triggered a wave of popular protests.

Agents of the Ministry of Intelligence opened fire on a moving vehicle in Saravan-Iran, killing a little Baluch girl named Mona Naghib and wounding another, on Sunday, October 23.
