The Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)May 11 announced that the Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the appointment of the religious fascism ruling Iran’s ambassador as the chair of the "Social Forum" of the UN Human Rights Council, which is scheduled to take place on November 2 and 3, 2023. This forum is supposed to "focus on the contribution of science, technology, and innovation to the promotion of human rights, including in the context of post-pandemic recovery". The NCRI statement continues: The Human Rights Council claimed that this appointment was based on "candidates nominated by regional groups," which is a clear reference to the opinion of other human rights violators and accomplices of the Iranian regime among Asian countries. This shameful appointment is taking place at a time when the Iranian regime has left behind the worst human rights record according to international authorities. The appointment of such individuals is a reward for those who commit crimes against humanity and violate human values that the modern world has made many sacrifices to achieve. The Iranian Resistance calls for the immediate cancellation of this unacceptable appointment.

During protests by teachers on Tuesday May 9, in 22 cities across 14 provinces in Iran, a number of protesting teachers were arrested. Among those detained were Fatemeh Tadrisi in Tehran, Atekeh Rajabi in Mashhad, Fateh Osmani and Farzad Safikhani in Sanandaj. https://tinyurl.com/2p8radvp The security forces apprehended Mrs. Tadrisi, and later she announced her transfer to Qarchak prison in a phone call. Atekeh Rajabi has embarked on a hunger strike within the confines of the detention center.

Iranian regime's judiciary has sentenced Maryam Vahidian, a journalist, to 4 years in prison. Maryam had been previously pursued and imprisoned for "assembly and collusion with intent to disrupt national security." Maryam Vahidian, was reporting on workers’ issues for the ILNA news agency, when arrested in Tehran on November 27, 2022 and released from Evin prison on December 28, of that year.

Zhina Modarres Gorji, a journalist and prominent women’s rights activist from Sanandaj, was transferred from solitary confinement to the general ward of the Sanandaj Rehabilitation and Correction Center on Tuesday, May 9, after one month of detention. Zhina was previously charged by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court’s Branch 1 with "acting against national security by forming an illegal group and joining it" in February 2023. She had also been accused of "propaganda against the state" in the past.
