Thousands gathered to protest outside the United Nations General Assembly, denouncing the presence of Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the Iranian regime on Sept 19. The demonstrators voiced their strong opposition, condemning Raisi as a key figure responsible for mass murder. They fervently argued that he should not be afforded a platform within the United Nations. One deeply troubling facet of Raisi’s background is his involvement in the 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI(National Council of Ressitance of Iran), conveyed her message to the rally participants through a video address. Prominent former officials, such as Senator Robert Torricelli, Senator Joseph Lieberman, Senator Sam Brownback, and Ambassador Mark Ginsburg, delivered speeches during the event. Additionally, representatives from diverse delegations, including clergy, youth, and women, shared their perspectives at this gathering. Maryam Rajavi said: “This event blatantly contradicts the United Nations’ raison d’être and is an affront to the people of Iran.” She urged accountability for Raisi, saying, “He must be held accountable for his crimes against humanity.” Rajavi called on governments worldwide to cease providing support to the Iranian regime and to prosecute Khamenei and Raisi in international courts for genocide and crimes against humanity, emphasizing, “They must place the clerical regime under Chapter VII (7)of the UN Charter as a threat to world peace and security.” She underscored the Iranian people’s determination to fight for freedom, saying, “Our people have found the path to victory and freedom.” “The democratic revolution of the people of Iran will triumph.”

The Iranian regime’s parliament adopted the controversial and suppressive Hijab and Chastity Bill in an open session on Wednesday, September 20. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of the mullahs’ parliament, said the bill had been ratified in coordination with the Iranian Judiciary. The Judicial Branch declared its agreement in writing to the parliament. The new suppressive Hijab and Chastity Bill will be enforced for three years on a trial basis after being approved by the Guardian Council. A group of UN Human Rights Council-appointed experts slammed the suppressive Hijab and Chastity Bill in a statement on September 1, and said it could amount to “Gender Apartheid.” The experts urged the Iranian authorities to “reconsider the compulsory hijab legislation in compliance with international human rights law, and to ensure the full enjoyment of human rights for all women and girls in Iran.” Fearing public reactions, the clerical regime’s parliament refrained from debating the bill in its open session and invoked an article of the constitution that permits the formation of a committee to approve legislation for “experimental” implementation. https://tinyurl.com/2mwnv74e
