Raheleh Rahemipour, a 72-year-old civil rights activist, remains in critical health condition while being held in Evin Prison in Iran. A 7 year old girl named Niyan Chaliyani died in Urmia Hospital due to severe burns and sexual assault. On the night of Thursday, January 16, Niyan’s father took her to the Emergency Room of Bukan Hospital with her showing signs of reduced consciousness and drug poisoning. Because of severe burns on her body and heavy bleeding, she was transferred to a hospital in Urmia, the capital of West Azerbaijan Province. Complementary information now indicates that Niyan's father and his companions had poured boiling water on her body to cover up the scars of sexual assault on her. Following the news of Niyan’s death, the people of Bukan took to the streets on January 25, demanding the punishment of the perpetrators of this heinous murder. The Director General of the Welfare Organization in Razavi Khorasan Province in Iran recently announced that 3,714 cases of child abuse have been reported to the social emergency services in this province alone since March 2024. https://tinyurl.com/3cjnwhsv

The request for conditional release of Nasrin Hassani, an imprisoned journalist, has been denied. She is currently serving her 19-month sentence in Bojnourd Prison among ordinary inmates, a clear violation of the principle of separating prisoners based on their charges.
