According to official reports, two senior judges, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghiseh, both responsible for mass executions, were eliminated in their offices in Tehran in the early hours of Saturday morning Jan. 18 when an infiltrator within the judiciary reportedly used a handgun and fatally shoot the two officials. The assailant then took his own life as security forces approached. Both so called judges were infamous figures in Iranian regime's judiciary, with long records of human rights abuses and repression that have drawn widespread international condemnation. Their deaths have reignited discussion about their role in decades of systemic oppression, including the massacre of over 30000 political prisoners in the 1988 massacre.

At 6 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, ten Bahaii women residing in Baharestan, Isfahan in Iran, were arrested and transferred to Dolatabad Prison in Isfahan. The detainees include Nasrin Khademi Qahfarrokhi, Roya Azadkhosh, Sara Shakib, Boshra Motahar, Mojgan Pourshafi Ardestani, Maryam Khorsandi, Shourangiz Bahamin, Sanaz Rasteh, Firouzeh Rasti-nejad, and Azita Rezvanikhah. This series of events underscores the continued targeting of the Bahaii community in Iran, as they endure systematic repression and discrimination, stripped of their basic human rights.

On the evening of Friday, January 17, Aida Amouei, a women’s rights activist in the city of Sanandaj, 40 years old, married and mother of 2, was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and transferred to an undisclosed location. Aida Amouei was taken into custody at her workplace, a Taekwondo club, without any judicial warrant. The arrest was carried out with the use of force.
Nearly three months have passed since the arrest and continued uncertainty surrounding Elnaz Ahmadi, 40 who has a phd in Physics. She was initially detained by intelligence agents and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, where she spent almost two months. On December 29, 2024, she was moved to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. However, she continues to be taken daily to Ward 209 for several hours of interrogation before being returned to her ward.
The Supreme Court’s Branch 9 has rejected a retrial request for Mahnaz Tarrah, a political prisoner currently held in Evin Prison. Earlier, in November 2024, her request for conditional release was denied following opposition from the Intelligence Organization of the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Zeinab Jalalian, the only female political prisoner with life in prison sentence, continues to endure her incarceration in Yazd Prison under harsh conditions without access to specialized medical care. This Kurdish political prisoner exiled to Yazd Prison in violation of the principle of separation of crimes, has been barred from visiting her family for more than 100 days. Zeinab Jalalian suffers from kidney, gastrointestinal, and eye ailments. But, due to obstruction by prison officials, she has been denied adequate and consistent medical treatment.
