In yet another tragic case of femicide in Iran, Raheleh Siavoshi, a national wushu champion and coach, was killed by her husband in the city of Nahavand, Hamedan province. Raheleh was 26 years old and the mother of a two month old infent. The perpetrator committed the crime following disputes over his wife’s participation in a national training camp and her continuation of professional sports activities. Branch 47 of the Iranian regime's Isfahan Court of Appeals has upheld a total sentence of 90 years in prison and additional penalties against ten Bahaii women, marking one of the harshest collective verdicts against Bahaii women in recent years. The verdicts were issued against Shana Shoghi-Far, Negin Khademi, Neda Badakhsh, Arezoo Sobhanian, Yeganeh Rouhbakhsh, Mojgan Shahrezaei, Parastoo Hakim, Yeganeh Agahi, Bahareh Lotfi, and Neda Emadi. Zeinab Jalalian, a Kurdish political prisoner and the only woman in Iran serving a life sentence, is reported to be in critical condition. After undergoing fibroid surgery in a hospital in Yazd, she was returned to prison just 24 hours later—before completing her post-operative treatment and against medical advice. For years, Jalalian has suffered from severe health complications, including internal bleeding, kidney problems, and chronic pain. On the morning of Wednesday, September 24, the death sentence of Roya Abbas-zadeh, a 25-year-old woman, was carried out in the Central Prison of Zanjan in Iran. She was sentenced to death four years ago on charges of “premeditated murder,” following a complaint filed by her fiancé’s family. Roya Abbas-zadeh, who resided in a village between Takestan and Zanjan, had reportedly been forced by her family into an arranged and unwanted marriage. Since Pezeshkian took office in late July 2024, the number of execution victims in Iran has surpassed 1,800.
