A 69 year old political prisoner, Nejat Anvar Hamidi has been denied medical treatment on the orders of the authorities at Sepidar prison in Ahvaz-Iran. She was imprisoned for 28 months during the 1980s for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the main Iranian opposition force. She and her husband and daughter were arrested for the second time in 2017. Nejat was interrogated and sentenced to five years for “membership in dissident groups on the internet” and “propaganda against the state.” In March 2019, she was called to serve her jail time in the Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz among ordinary prisoners violating the principle of separation of crimes. Mrs. Anvar Hamidi was later informed that she and her husband, Akbar Mohammadi, had been sentenced to another 15 years in prison for “membership in the PMOI/MEK” and “propaganda against the state” by the 4th Branch of the Justice Department of Ahvaz, while no new charges had been leveled against them.

Iranian Cartoonist Atena Farghdani, was sentenced to 6 year imprisonment by the 26th branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, 5 years in prison for “insulting the sanctities” and to 1 year in prison for “propaganda against the state.” Atena Farghadani was violently arrested on April 13, 2024, by security forces while putting up one of her caricatures on a wall in Pastor Street where the presidential palace is located. A week after the arrest of the Iranian cartoonist and former political prisoner, Atena Farghadani, her lawyer said she was tortured in a safe house run by the regime’s security police.

On Wednesday, June 5, Hamideh Zeraii 37 years old and master’s student in the Research Sciences branch at Tehran Azad University was arrested after visiting the 13th branch of the Rasht Revolutionary Court in northern Iran. She was swiftly transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht. Recently, Hamideh Zeraii was summoned to the same court to provide explanations. However, her appearance led to her immediate arrest and subsequent transfer back to Lakan prison.
