The Iranian Judiciary sentenced Mahsa Yazdani to 13 years in prison. Mahsa Yazdani is the mother of one of the victims of the 2022 Iran protests, Mohammad Javad Zahedi. The first branch of the Revolutionary Court has sentenced Mahsa Yazdani to two counts of five-year sentences for “insulting the sanctities” and “provoking people against national security.” She is sentenced to two years for insulting Ali Khamenei, and to one year in prison for “activities against the Islamic Republic.” These make a total of 13 years. If the verdict is upheld, Mrs. Yazdani would have to serve five years in prison. Security forces in Sari, the capital of Mazandaran Province, arrested Mahsa Yazdani on August 22, before the anniversary of last year’s Iran protests. In another development, the 35th Branch of the Revision Court of Khorasan Province upheld a six-month sentence for Atekeh Rajabi, an elementary school teacher who was arrested before joining a teachers’ protest in Mashhad on May 9. The gas poisoning of school girls in Iran has resumed, with the third incident happening in a week in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran. On Saturday, November 4, a number of students in Kowsar girls’ school in Ahvaz had to be taken to hospital due to inhaling an odorous gas which caused shortness of breath and other symptoms of poisoning. Official media in Iran did not use the term “poisoning,” and only wrote about “shortness of breath.” In the meantime, the political and intelligence deputy of the governor of Khuzestan said the students were feeling “discomfort.” https://tinyurl.com/e6w67hu3

Sixty-seven female high school students from one of the schools in Zanjan-Iran were hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning, on Sunday, October 29. Hasan Esmkhani, the Public Relations Manager of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, announced that following a poisoning incident at Kowsar Girls’ High School of Art in Zanjan, 36 students were transferred to Mousavi Hospital, 29 to Vali-e-Asr Hospital, one to Baqiyatollah Hospital, and one to Imam Hossein Hospital in Zanjan. Maryam Forough-Manesh, was hanged in the Central Prison of Yasuj in Iran at dawn on Wednesday, November 1, the Iranian state media reported. Maryam was from Dehdasht, in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Province in southwestern Iran. She had been convicted of murder and sentenced to death. It is not yet clear how many years she was incarcerated. According to the data compiled by the NCRI Women’s Committee, this is the 221st woman to be executed in Iran since 2007, and the 18th woman executed in 2023, so far.
